isolated and characterized the compound from Sorghum vulgare Pers., reported that the glycoside was abundant in young plants but was absent in mature plants and in the seed (5). These observations suggested that this tissue might be suitable for investigating the biosynthesis of p-hydroxybenzaldehyde and HCN. This paper describes experiments designed to test the usefulness of Sorghutm vulgare as an experimental material and defines the conditions used in subsequent biosynthetic studies (4).
