Using the yield of total flavones extracted from lotus leaves as index, the mechanochemical process was optimized through single factor experiment and orthogonal test. The results showed that the optimum parameters for mechanochemical process of total flavones extraction from lotus leaves were as follows: water as solvent and Na2 CO3 / Na2 B4 O7(1∶2,m / m) of 18%(ratio to dry weight) as additive, the ratio of lotus leaf to water for 1∶40(g/mL), extracting 25 min under 85 ℃. Under these condition the rates of the total flavones increased 61.1% compared with alcohol extraction method. It is indicated that the mechanochemical process was an effective method to extract total flavones from lotus leaves with in higher extraction yield, shorter time and without organic solvent and more environment friendly.
