Abstract The design of a line‐scanned micro Raman spectrometer is described which uses a cooled, slow‐scan, chargecoupled device imaging detector to obtain sequences of Raman spectra from a ca. 100‐μm long line on a sample. The prototype design has a spatial resolution of <10 μm and a spectral resolution of 4 cm −1 . Applications of the instrument to the analysis of mixed TiO 2 powders and the components of a zircon mineral are reported.
