Bone marrow invasion in breast carcinoma

A 64-year old female patient presented to the haematology department in AZ Klina, a tertiary hospital in Antwerp, Belgium, in August, 2020, with symptoms of vague general malaise and fatigue. Her medical history included bariatric surgery in 2011 and Hashimoto hypothyroidism. There was no familial history of cancer. Laboratory testing revealed a normochromic, normocytic anaemia (haemoglobin level 8·4 g/dL) without any nutritional deficits or reticulocytosis. She also had mild thrombocytopenia (148 000 platelets/μL), a normal white blood cell count, and a normal differential count.
