Filtration Principles

Filtration is a process in which components of a fluid mixture are separated based on their size during the mixture transfer through a porous material. In bioprocess filtration, two modes of operation are commonly employed: (1) normal flow filtration (NFF) and (2) cross-flow filtration (CFF). There are also many different filter materials and device constructions to choose from. Material and device choice will affect retention, fouling, and process design.
