摘要
The chemistry and reactions of phenol-formaldehyde resins and resorcinol-formaldehyde (RF) resins are presented as well as their main properties, processing methods, and a number of their main industrial applications. These include their several applications as wood adhesives and in wood composites, in insulation materials, in friction materials, as abrasive binders, as coatings, as foundry sand binders, and in laminating and shell molding. Their modification/upgrading by the presence of fillers and extenders is also presented. Their modifications by condensation with other resins such as urea and urea-based resins, isocyanates, biopolyphenolics, to classical phenol-RF copolymers and their reduced resorcinol content counterparts are also presented.
