摘要
Rationale: The prevalence of malnutrition in Parkinson’s Disease (PD) remains highly variable in literature due to the different assessment methods applied. The Global Leadership Initiative on Malnutrition (GLIM) criteria were published in 2019 to standardize the complex diagnosis of malnutrition. No studies have been published describing malnutrition prevalence in patients with PD according to GLIM criteria. We aimed to describe the frequency of malnutrition in institutionalized patients with PD according to GLIM criteria. Methods: Data was collected from one health institution specialized in neurological disorders (Campus Neurológico). All inpatients with clinical diagnose of PD, that signed an informed consent, with a nutritional screening performed at admission using the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short form (≥65 years) or Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool (<65 years) were included. Descriptive statistics were used for demographic and clinical data, while continuous variables were presented as a mean ± standard deviation (SD). Results: A total of 148 patients were included with a mean age of 74±8.5 years. Of those 102 (68.9%) meet the criteria to apply GLIM whether according to MNA-SF or MUST. Phenotypic and etiologic criteria were present in 68 patients (45.9%). Moderate malnutrition was more frequent (33.8%). Conclusion: Prevalence of malnutrition in this population is significant and so future studies to validate the use of GLIM in this specific population are needed.
