Full waveform inversion (FWI) is a technique employed in seismic exploration for accurate estimation of the earth's subsurface using iterative wave inversion methods. Although computationally intensive, advancements in technology have expanded FWI's use in medical imaging. FWI methods have been used in ultrasound computed tomography for breast cancer detection, due to higher resolution of the reconstructed images when compared to time-of-flight tomography. Recently, some studies have shown FWI implementation for transcranial imaging of the human brain, which may have potential applications in the diagnosis of head injury or stroke. However, the tools used for FWI implementation for transcranial application are proprietary and not readily accessible. Here, we explore a freely available and readily accessible tools for transcranial imaging using FWI.
