Zoological Applications of Laser Therapy

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is used in zoos as part of a multimodal approach to case management. It is a non-invasive and generally safe treatment modality that can help manage medical conditions including wound management, neurologic injuries, and age-related degenerative conditions. This chapter discusses how PBMT may help reduce pain and improve healing time, and ultimately may help reduce patient mortality, benefitting animal welfare and reducing treatment costs and staff time.
