Inflammatory diseases are detrimental processes to the human body. Astrocytes, the most predominant glial cell in the central nervous system are critical in the development and maintenance of inflammatory disorders. Recent studies have found that mechanosensitive ion channel (MSC), Piezo1 is expressed in astrocytes. However, it is unknown how inflammatory responses of astrocytes modulate the Piezo1 current. In this study, we investigated inflammation driven Piezo1 current changes by performing in vitro electrophysiological recordings and calcium imaging on cultured astrocytes.
