Cross-polarization (CP) and magic angle spinning (MAS) carbon-13 solid state nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry (NMR) is used to identify the functionality of octadecylsilica stationary phases. The NMR method is compared to the retention behavior method for the identification. The NMR spectra indicate various features, depending on the functionality of the bonded phases.
