CuO/Ni(OH)2/carbon cloth (CuO/Ni(OH)2/CC) was successfully prepared by one-step solvothermal method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscope (XPS) results confirm the co-existence of CuO and Ni(OH)2. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images indicate that there is existence of CuO cubes and nanoparticles on Ni(OH)2 nanosheets. Electrochemical measurements suggest that obtained CuO/Ni(OH)2/CC composite electrode exhibits a wider linear range (0.05–8.50 mM), a higher sensitivity (598.6 μA mM−1 cm−2) and a low detection limit of 0.31 μM (S/N = 3). Additionally, good selectivity against common interferents, long-time stability and practical applicability for glucose detection demonstrate that the CuO/Ni(OH)2/CC is a promising electrode for non-enzymatic glucose sensing.
