Delivering drugs in high concentrations exclusively to the targeted body component of interest unambiguously increases the efficiency and effectiveness of drug delivery. The modern drug delivery systems developed based on this concept are termed targeted drug delivery (TDD) systems. A variety of nanocarriers are being used in TDD to date, and this chapter focuses on the potential use of mesoporous nanocarriers in TDD systems. Apart from targeted delivery, it is evident that the activity of mesoporous nanomaterials may be controlled by a little change in the chemical environment, allowing them to be used for loading and subsequent release of biomolecules of interest. This chapter provides a detailed description of 3D porous crystalline polyimides, mesoporous silica nanoparticles, considering their importance in bone regeneration, microfluidic-templated encapsulation, and finally, a brief introduction to nano-in-micro drug delivery, which are expected to revolutionize the field of nanomedicine in the near future.
