摘要
Waste clearance in the brain is mediated through the glymphatic system, which has been explored in neurodegeneration, sleep, and aging. Genetic, metabolic-vascular, and neuroimaging evidence suggest that clearance of debris via the glymphatic system is affected in schizophrenia (SCZ). We aimed to quantify the aggregation of high-molecular-weight macromolecules (MM), as a measure of compromised glymphatic system, in patients with SCZ. We hypothesised: 1) patients with SCZ would have higher MM levels than controls; 2) Age would be associated with less glymphatic system efficiency in both SCZ and controls.
