摘要
The prevalence of end-stage renal disease is rising across the globe, with diabetes as the leading cause in half of those affected [1]. As a result of global industrialization with the popularity of unhealthy diets and physical inactivity, obesity and diabetes are epidemics affecting many individuals worldwide including the youth populations. The decline in the age of onset of diabetes and the increased risk of cardio-renal complications in young-onset diabetes are especially worrisome [2]. Furthermore, the impact of the recent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and its related influence on the change of lifestyle habits and the consequences on physical and mental health remain to be seen in the long run [3].
