摘要
This chapter presents the pervasiveness of vaccine misinformation on social platforms as a significant challenge to public health efforts. Misinformation affects scientific knowledge about vaccine safety or effectiveness, vaccine perceptions, vaccine acceptance, and concerns about immunization against future diseases. The chapter looks into strategies and approaches for counteracting vaccine misinformation, including research initiatives and practical interventions. It examines the role played by each of the components in the spread of vaccine misinformation on a larger scale. This will involve an analysis of the patterns and characteristics of the misinformation circulating on social media. The chapter discusses factors that have been shown to influence individual susceptibility to vaccine misinformation, focusing on findings from empirical studies. It concludes with proposed mitigation strategies for institutions and individuals in mitigating the impact of vaccine misinformation, particularly on social media. The chapter suggests potential directions for future research.
