New-World Camelids (NWC) are susceptible to a number of common infectious agents that are associated with other domestic animals. Enterotoxemia caused by Clostridium perfringens is a most significant disease. Coccidioidomycosis presents an important differential diagnostic challenge because of multiple organ involvement. NWC susceptibility to viral agents in general would appear to be low; however, rabies, ecthyma, and a blindness due to equine herpes I virus are reported. Serological evidence of exposure to many viral agents exists without clinical presentation of disease.
