Dr Zarrinkoob and colleagues conducted an intense evaluation of four-dimensional (4D) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in measuring the blood flow in the cerebral arteries of patients who had undergone carotid endarterectomy (CEA) for symptomatic carotid stenosis. The authors observed that the total cerebral blood flow (tCBF) was only increased postoperatively in patients with recruited collaterals and not in those without collateral recruitment and that MCA laterality was only observed in patients with collaterals recruited postoperatively.
