At present, oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalyst has become an important obstacle to the commercial development of fuel cells (FCs), and it is extremely important to explore efficient and stable ORR catalysts. Composite catalysts formed by WS 2 attachment to two carbon substrates were synthesized by hydrothermal method. The results of the morphology and composition characterization for two composite catalysts predict their good ORR activity. Electrochemical researches have confirmed this prediction. WS 2 /AC and WS 2 /rGO show outstanding catalytic activity, excellent methanol tolerance, and favorable long-term stability for ORR. ORR occurring on WS 2 /AC and WS 2 /rGO demonstrate a typical 4-electron pathway. This present research provides a feasible strategy for expanding novel, low-cost, effffective, and stable ORR catalysts as alternative catalysts for Pt/C.
