Gemäß Hochauflösungs-TEM-Analyse (Bild rechts und Einschub) ist jede Mikrokugel ein Einzelkristall. Wegen ihrer hydrophilen und magnetischen Eigenschaften sollten die Mikropartikel für viele Anwendungen in der Elektronik und der Biomedizin von Interesse sein.
