The allyl-oxygen bond in a series of alkyl and aryl allyl ethers was cleaved in a SmCl3-catalyzed electrochemical reaction. The competition between the cleavage of the oxallyl and other functional groups, such as halides, ester, ketone or aldehyde was examined.
