4-Hydroxyl coumarin and seven novel 7-substituted-4-hydroxyl coumarins in yields of 49%~90% were synthesized from 4-substituted-2-hydroxyl acetylbenzene by a one-step reaction using DMSO as the solvent, diethyl carbonate as the acidylating agent, and sodium hydride as the catalyst. The structures were characterized by 1H NMR.
