This article gives an overview of the recent developments in diterpene biosynthesis. The section is structured by the producing organisms, starting with diterpenes from bacteria, followed by fungi and plants, and finishing with social amoebae that were recently uncovered as diterpene producers. Each of the sections is then ordered by the different sub-classes of terpene synthases that are relevant to the discussed taxon. With a total number of 196 references and 211 compounds a comprehensive summary of the accumulated knowledge on diterpene biosynthesis of the past decade is given.
