Forty years ago, Pye et al 1 Pye R.J. Peachey R.D.G. Burton J.L. Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp. Br J Dermatol. 1979; 100: 559-566 Google Scholar described “erosive pustular dermatitis of the scalp” (EPDS). “All the patients were elderly women who developed chronic, extensive, pustular, crusted and occasionally eroded lesions of the scalp which produced scarring alopecia. Investigations were essentially negative and skin biopsies showed only non-specific changes of atrophy and chronic inflammation. … The condition did not respond to antibiotics, but was suppressed by potent topical steroids.” Erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp: A neutrophilic folliculitis within the spectrum of neutrophilic dermatoses: A clinicopathologic study of 30 casesJournal of the American Academy of DermatologyVol. 81Issue 2PreviewIt is general opinion that histopathology is nonspecific and of little value in diagnosing erosive pustular dermatosis of the scalp (EPDS).
