摘要
Radiation damage in the form of radical formation by homolytic Se−C bond cleavage was trapped by high-resolution X-ray and EPR experiments, as reported by Dietmar Stalke et al. in their Communication (DOI: 10.1002/anie.202203665). Orange dibenzyldiselenide single crystals are X-ray exposed with various intensities and the benzyl radical formation is monitored by multipole refinement and quantum/molecular mechanics. In any interpretation of selenium containing structures, particularly in life science experiments from synchrotrons, it is important to consider those radical-induced processes.
