A surge of interest has been sparked in devising sustainable techniques for producing syngas due to the increasing global methane emissions. The advent of advanced photocatalytic reactors has a viable pathway for generating syngas by transforming methane from natural gas. This review delves into the realm of photocatalytic syngas production, charting its evolution over time and accentuating recent advancements including fundamentals of photocatalysis and how diverse photocatalysts drive the production of syngas. The central emphasis lies in manufacturing photocatalytic reactors, encompassing an exhaustive evaluation of reactor classifications and the factors influencing their efficacy. Amid this dynamic domain, forthcoming prospects and challenges are contemplated while scrutinizing present and potential applications. In conclusion, this analysis provides a comprehensive understanding of how photocatalytic principles and reactor design contribute to efficient and sustainable syngas.
