See the Original Article here. We read with great interest the manuscript “The Accuracy of Patient-Specific Three-Dimensional Digital Ostectomy Template for Mandibular Angle Ostectomy” by Drs Wu, Xie, Sahngguan, Zhang, Wang, Hu, Lu, and Gao.1 We applaud the authors for objectively looking at a “new, improved” cutting guide for their mandibular angle/inferior border resection cases for “Prominent Mandibular Angle” (PMA) patients. We agree that an intraoral approach to this problem is far superior to an external approach (with potential scar deformity). We also agree that virtual planning with cutting guides allows for more efficient (faster), more accurate (comparison of virtual plan with postoperative 3-dimensional computed tomography scans), and safer (less inferior alveolar nerve and subcondylar injury) procedures. We previously published a cadaveric study showing similar objective improvements in efficiency, accuracy, and safety.2 In addition, as the authors suggested, virtual planning allows for more time to contemplate the...
