HYDRON: the ESA Initiative towards Optical Networking in Space

The HydRON Project aims at developing innovative optical communication technologies / equipment, including flight opportunities for their in-orbit verification, to validate the "Fibre in the Sky" concept integrated into terrestrial networks at Terabit/sec capacity. This paper will present the current status of the technical and programmatic aspects.
