摘要
Abstract Occurance competition between redox and complexation reaction of Cu(II) and 2-thiobarbituric acid (HTBA) was investigated, in the presence of excess of 2-thiobarbituric acid, a yellow copper (I) complex was formed. Mixing of excess of copper (II) with 2-thiobarbituric acid a brown colored complex was produced. This complex was mixed valence complex. A combination of elemental and thermal analysis has shown the formulae CuI (HTBA)2 C1.3H2 0, CuI(HTBA)C1.2H2 0 and CuICuII(HTBA)4 (TBA) 3Cl2.6H2 0. The electronic spectra of the compounds in the solid state, magnetic susceptibilities and i.r. and e.s.r. spectra were studied.
