Synthesis and thermochromic behavior of azobenzene-dischiff bases

Azobenzene-dischiff bases are synthesized from p-nitrobenzaldchyde as material in which is reduced by metallic magnium and methanol in N 2 atmosphere, which then reacted with deriviatives of amine. Their structures have been characterized by the melting pointing, 1H NMR and elemental analysis. By heating micro-observe,it shows that all the compounds possess thermochromic properties, four of them show color reversibility at temperature in the range of 160～200 ℃. Color changing temperature packs and milting point peaks of azobenzene-dischiff bases are recorded by using the DSC measurement.
