This comprehensive review explores the crucial role of electrochemistry in galena flotation and grinding processes. It delves into the fundamental electrochemical properties of galena, including its semiconductor characteristics and the influence of impurities, which significantly impact its flotation performance. The main electrochemical reactions involved in galena flotation, such as surface oxidation, xanthate adsorption, and depression, are examined in detail, focusing on their mechanisms and influencing factors. The review also summarizes the electrochemical environment during grinding, particularly the galvanic interactions between galena/pyrite and grinding media, and their effects on downstream flotation. The review concludes by highlighting the importance of integrating electrochemistry with other disciplines to develop efficient, selective, and sustainable flotation processes for galena and other sulfide minerals.
