The linear thermal expansion of lead halide (PbCl2, PbBr2, PbI2) crystals was measured between room temperature and their melting points. Using the temperature dependence of linear thermal expansion Δl/l, the coefficients of linear thermal expansion α and their temperature dependencies were calculated and the results presented. The thermal expansion of compounds such as CuCl, CsPbCl3, CsPbBr3 and RbPbCl3 was also measured and the changes in α were used in the study of polymorphism in lead halides.
