Pyrazolato and related anions. Part I. Bidentate coordination of the pyrazolato ion

Abstract A number of metal salts of pyrazole are reported. Salts of Cd, Zn, Co, Ni and Cu are synthesized from an aqueous ammonia solution, or by addition of NaOH to a solvated pyrazole metal complex in water. The compounds were characterized and identified by chemical analyses, infrared and ligand field spectra. In all cases the pyrazolato ion acts as a bidentate, and tetrahedral or square planar surrounded metal ions are found.
