Unfortunately, their definition of the term validity is vague. Campbell first classified validity into two categories, internal validity and external validity, as did Altman and colleagues. In 1979, however, Campbell classified validity into four categories: internal validity, statistical conclusion validity, construct validity, and external validity (2), a definition that is now in general use (3, 4).
