摘要
ObjectivesWhile research on mindfulness and mental health continues to accumulate, studies on the use of mindfulness apps in residential treatment for adolescents with substance use disorders are limited. This study reports on a pilot integrating the use of one such app in one treatment center.MethodsAdolescents (n = 20) seeking treatment for substance use disorders engaged in a protocol of exercises using a freely available mindfulness app for the duration of their residential stays. Effects on anxiety were ascertained through period administration of the Zung Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS). Check-in and debrief interviews were also conducted with participants.ResultsThe study is ongoing, so the results remain to be determined as of this submission. We intend to provide trends in Zung SAS scores as well as qualitative data on patient experience and feedback based on our interviews.ConclusionsThe study is ongoing, so conclusions also remain to be determined. We anticipate that this pilot will suggest benefits in terms of anxiety reduction to the integration of digital mindfulness interventions into residential substance abuse treatment, but also that the design of this integration introduces several variables into treatment that need to be further analyzed.SUD, RTX, ADOL ObjectivesWhile research on mindfulness and mental health continues to accumulate, studies on the use of mindfulness apps in residential treatment for adolescents with substance use disorders are limited.
