Design and ablative properties of peripheral atherectomy lasers with a special emphasis on the Auryon system

Laser atherectomy is an important component of the successful debulking of the peripheral arteries. This chapter provides an overview of the physics of lasers, including details on wavelength, pulse width, and fluence and how they relate to the ablation process (photochemical, photothermal, and photomechanical). In-depth assessment of the most recently approved device, the Auryon system, is provided, along with case studies and clinical data.
