摘要
As several nations are striving to decarbonize their economies by 2050, the role of hydrogen (H 2 ) as a clean energy vector becomes even more important. Being a completely zero-carbon technology, electrocatalytic water splitting has been one of the most widely adopted strategies to produce green H 2 using the surplus electricity from the intermittent renewables. This chapter introduces the readers to the fundamental concepts of electrocatalytic water splitting and lays succinct description of the advances in industrial water electrolyzer technologies. A detailed section is also included on the futuristic concept of producing H 2 by direct electrolysis of seawater and the current advancement in the area.
