摘要
The demand for desalination is steadily rising due to dwindling fresh water sources and the abundant saline water in our oceans. Among the various techniques available, membrane-based methods stand out as particularly promising. Graphene is the most extensively researched material in recent times and is rapidly gaining traction in desalination because of its unique features, including its nano-pore sizes. This article discusses the advancements in graphene-based nano-membranes for desalination, driven by the urgent need for potable water. It outlines the potential of these membranes to enhance the desalination process, highlighting specific research gaps related to desalination techniques, graphene materials, membrane casting methods, and the performance of different membranes. The article also explores the mechanics of desalination and contrasts the efficacy of various graphene membranes derived from distinct graphene composites. Moreover, it touches upon the challenges and future prospects of applying graphene nano-membranes to mainstream desalination processes. While graphene-based nano-membranes are still in their developmental phase, their substantial potential for desalination and other processes cannot be overlooked.
