Upadacitinib for the management of severe alopecia areata in adolescent patients: a single-center retrospective study

Alopecia areata is a T-cell mediated autoimmune disease characterized by non-scarring hair loss of the scalp and of the body. This is a retrospective single-centre study, performed at the trichology outpatient clinic of the University Federico II of Naples from January 2023 to January 2024, on a case series of 15 adolescent patients (age range of 12 to 17 years old) with severe alopecia areata and treated for at least 24 weeks with off-label use of upadacitinib. Treatment with upadacitinib has a promising efficacy and safety profile in the treatment of severe alopecia areata in adolescent patients.
