4.4 When Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Bipolar Disorder (BD) Co-Occur

There is growing interest in the overlap between child and adolescent–onset bipolar disorder (BD) and nicotine use/substance use disorder (SUD). Practitioners are often faced with monitoring adolescents with BD and evaluating young people with SUD for BD. This presentation will describe the nature and rates of the bidirectional overlap of BD, nicotine use, and SUD.
