Abstract Kinetics of interaction between polyaniline (PANI) and HCI vapor have been investigated. It was obtained that d.c. conductivity of PANI pellets increased sharply after some induction period which strongly depended on concentration of HCI vapor. By reaching to the some doping degree of the powder it was observed that the ESR-signal intensity sharply increased. The kinetics of the thermal and chemical deprotonation of PANI has been investigated. The activation energies of the thermal dehydrochlorination of PANI and poly-o-toluidine (POT) were determined, which were respectively 0.27 and 0.91 eV.
