Abstract A variant of studying the properties of electromagnetic waves during a lecture demonstration using a Seibt coil is proposed. The article describes the physical foundations necessary to understand the demonstrations and the technical details of the demonstration setup used. Particular attention is paid to the organization of educational activities of students to assimilate the properties of standing electromagnetic waves on the basis of the proposed version of the experimental setup. Since this topic is little covered in the literature available to teachers, the article is offered as a teaching-learning material for teachers of general physics in the study of standing electromagnetic waves. Our experience in using the described demonstration shows a statistically significant increase in the level of assimilation of the properties of the topic under study at the levels of both reproduction and application of the content.
