In this research, a series of analysis and validation were conducted for estimating the fatigue life of plastic gears. A jig for depicting assembly state in vehicle actuators was made based on failure mechanism analysis. A vibration test for detecting the resonance frequency was performed using a frequency range specified in the ISO standard and it is confirmed that a resonance point occurs within a range generated by an engine operation. Finite element analysis was conducted to obtain the maximum stress in the vibration test applied with a sinusoidal sweep signal and the cycles to failure were calculated through the accelerated testing. The fatigue life model for plastic gears was established by deriving an S-N curve on the relation between stress and cycles to failure. The purpose of this study is to propose a design guideline for improving the reliability of vehicle actuators through the establishment of a fatigue life model for the elemental components.
