Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by cerebral extracellular amyloid plaques and intracellular neurofibrillary tangles.Although the molecular mechanisms of AD pathogenesis are not clearly understood owing to its complexity, recent studies have demonstrated that the polymerization of amyloid β-peptides (Aβ) into amyloid fibrils is crucial. In this research progress report, we summarized our recent progress in the mechanism, diagnosis and treatment of AD, including Aβ metal/protein/inorganic drug agent interaction mechanism, targeting inhibitors, multifunctional therapeutic agents, and their biological effects. It is expected to explore a new way for the prevention and treatment of AD and construction of a more efficient treatment system.
