The abrasion characteristics of brown rice in the polishing unit of the rice mill are not clearly understood, which greatly limits the new development need of moderate milling. Therefore, a single rice abrasion characteristic test platform with adjustable normal force, grit number of abrasive surface and sliding distance was set up. The results showed that both the normal load and the grit number significantly influence mass loss and specific abrasion area. It was found that the abrasion coefficient decreases with increasing load and increases with larger grit number. The abrasive surface of brown rice grain was inspected to understand abrasion behavior. The rice kernels lying on the plate milled by abrasive plane is more conducive to the restoration of nutritious embryo. An application of abrasion characteristics combining the milling information from simulation was proposed, aiming at provided a method for the digital design of the rice mill.
