This study has the advantage of considering a detailed analysis of smoking status and amount, a shared risk factor of both RA and lung cancer, and revealed the highest risk of lung cancer in RA, especially in heavy smokers with RA. This study also provided valuable information that serologic status and interstitial lung disease (ILD), an important presumed risk factor of lung cancer in RA, may not have a considerable effect on the development of lung cancer in RA.
