Abstract This study demonstrates the effect of different binders on the power characteristics of carbon fluorides (CFx) cathode material for power-type lithium primary batteries. Specifically, polymer binders, such as polyacrylic latex (LA133), poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) are utilized in the preparation of CFx composite electrodes. The selection of binders significantly influences the rate performance of Li/CFx batteries. Among the binders tested, the LA133 binder notably reduces the electrode resistance and interface impedance of the batteries compared to PVDF and CMC, resulting in outstanding rate performance at 1C. Additionally, this study discusses the impact of binder chemistry on the overall performance of the batteries.
