摘要
“Engineered living materials” are a rapidly emerging field of interest. In article number 1901826, Neel Joshi and co-workers show that hydrogels can be fabricated simply by concentrating bacterial cultures producing extracellular protein fibers. Because of the embedded living cells, these materials can be genetically programmed to adhere to specific tissues and regenerate themselves inside the mammalian gastrointestinal tract.
