摘要
Resin transfer molding is a widely used technique to fabricate large composite parts in the industry. The process involves injecting reactive resins into a closed mold with preplaced fiber mats. While in applications, proper selection of the process parameters is the key point to yield successful molding results. In this study, the effects of process parameters (the mold heating rate, mold temperature, resin filling and curing temperatures) on the thermal responses of the composites were studied first using a simulation model to ensure their relevance to the process. Genetic algorithms were used to search for the parameters that could reduce the cycle time and enhance property uniformity of the part. The RTM process simulation model was integrated with genetic algorithms to create an efficient design tool for the RTM process. Genetic algorithms efficiently determine the design parameters for a better molding cycle.
