An Evaluation of Singapore’s Policies to Promote Successful Aging

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of policies intended to support the successful aging of the population in Singapore. Through semi-structured interviews with seniors, we find gaps between their ideal expectations of policy implementation and their actual experiences, thereby leading to limited satisfaction with the current aging-related policies. In the eyes of senior citizens, more feasible ways that can contribute to long-term successful aging include offering enhanced support to ensure continuity of working and to cope with rising living expenses especially in healthcare, improving outreach efforts, and developing more balanced approaches in a combination of family-centered and individual-centered cares.
